Dr. Howard Hassman

Howard Hassman, DO is the Chief Scientific Officer at Hassman Research Institute. He is board certified in family practice and received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Hassman completed his Fellowship at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, working collaboratively with Karl Rickles, MD, Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and President of the Private Practice Research Group. His undergraduate degree is from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Dr. Hassman combines his experience as a physician, expertise in psychopharmacology and decades of experience as an investigator to improving the quality of lives for his patients.
Dr. Hassman has been a frequent presenter at both national and regional meetings of the CNS Summit, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Society of Biological Psychiatry, Schizophrenia International Research Society and the International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology. He also serves on several local Advisory and Internal Review Boards. Dr. Hassman’s affinity for vulnerable members of society and compassion for his community awarded him the Devereux Leadership Award and Outstanding Efforts in the Healthcare Community San Diego Awards.
Dr. Larry Ereshefsky

Larry Ereshefsky, Pharm. D, F.C.C.P, B.C.C.P is the Chief Scientific Officer for early phase development at Hassman Research Institute (HRI). Dr. Ereshefsky has more than 40 years of drug discovery and development experience including leadership roles at University of Texas Health Science and PAREXEL. IN addition to his role at HRI, Dr. Ereshefsky is the Chief Scientific Officer and Owner of Follow the Molecule: CNS Consulting LLC, in Marina del Rey, CA, as well as, Clinical Research Consultant for ProScience Research Group (PsRG) LLC, in Culver City, CA.
Since the early 1970’s, Dr. Ereshefsky has been a keynote speaker, chairman and board member of numerous professional societies. He was a founding member of: The College of Psychiatric and Neurological Pharmacists (CPNP) (1995), The International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology (ISCTM) (2005), and Foundation of the College of Psychiatric and Neurological Pharmacists (2011-2014). Dr. Ereshefsky is an ongoing member of societies, such as: American Society for Clinical Psychopharmacology(ASCP), and Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum (CINP).
Over the last four decades, Dr. Ereshefsky has been part of 200+ Scholarly Presentations, published 200+ Research/Medical Papers/Posters, published 150+ Peer Reviewed Articles, and has published 150+ Abstracts.
Dr. Elan Cohen
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR & RATER
Elan Cohen, PhD is a Principal Investigator and Lead Psychometric Rater at Hassman Research Institute (HRI). Since 2007, he has conducted Phase I-IV CNS and medically-focused clinical trials. Dr. Cohen, a New Jersey and Pennsylvania Licensed Psychologist, joined HRI with over 20 years of robust experience providing a high standard of direct clinical care to patients living with a variety of psychiatric disorders. His expertise also extends to psychiatric scale management services, writing clinical trial protocols, integrating regulatory compliance matters with rater training programs, and producing various scale training videos.
Further, Dr. Cohen’s research has generated multiple presentations at several international pharmaceutical conferences on such topics as placebo and nocebo effect reduction methodologies, execution of pragmatic rater training programs, electronic data capturing devices, and methodological implications of psychiatric measures within clinical trials. Dr. Cohen’s research on methodologies to reduce the placebo and nocebo effects within clinical trials continues at HRI, where he and the other HRI Science Division team members empirically investigate and present at industry conferences on this crucial topic area.
Elan has an MA from Ball State University in Counseling Psychology and his PhD from Indiana State University.
Dr. Steven J Glass
PSYCHIATRIC MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Steven Glass, MD is the Psychiatric Medical Director at Hassman Research Institute. He has a wealth of experience in clinical research, with a strong background in all psychiatric indications including schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, pain, and human abuse liability (HAL). He has extensive experience as a Principal Investigator (PI) conducting and overseeing early phase work in both healthy normal subjects and diverse disease state subjects.
Dr. Glass worked at Intra-Cellular Therapies Inc. (ITCI) where he was a Senior Medical Director. Before ITCI, he was the Psychiatric Medical Director at PRA Health Sciences and before that at CRI Worldwide. .
Dr. Glass received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Jefferson University) where he also completed his psychiatric residency and Chief Resident responsibilities. .
Dr. Michael Hassman
MEDICAL DIRECTOR & PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Michael Hassman, DO is a Medical Director and Principal Investigator for Hassman Research Institute. Prior to HRI, he was in a similar capacity at Comprehensive Clinical Research (CCR).
Dr. Hassman is board certified in American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and is affiliated with the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, the New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and Lambda Omicron Gamma National Medical Society.
Dr. Hassman, DO earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Philadelphia, PA). His undergraduate degree is from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
Dr. Djouher Hough
DIRECTOR OF ADDICTION AND PAIN MANAGEMENT & SUB INVESTIGATOR
Djouher Hough , Psy.D., is the Director of Addiction and Pain Management and a Sub-Investigator at Hassman Research Institute (HRI).
She is an expert in addiction, where she recently provided drug and alcohol counseling in inpatient and outpatient forensic settings at Pennsylvania Counseling Services, addictions counseling and pain management counseling at the University of Pennsylvania Outpatient Psychiatry center, and provided clinical services for the treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders and psychotic in several community mental health settings. Prior to these experiences she conducted research at the Columbia University addiction centers and New York State Psychiatric Institute, including her dissertation titled “Does Smoking Account for The Purported Cognitive Deficits Related to Suicide in Depression?”.
Dr. Hough graduated from LaSalle University with her Psy.D and earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Columbia University. She earned her BA degree in Psychology in from St. John’s University.
Joy C. Kennedy
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Joy C. Kennedy is the Chief Financial Officer for Hassman Research Institute (HRI). She has a proven record of managing the financial activities of fast-growing firms. Prior to her role at HRI, Ms. Kennedy was the Director of Finance for Computer Sciences Corporation, responsible for the financial health of multi-million dollar outsourcing engagements.
Joy has a BS Degree in Finance from Merrimack College and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maine.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Steve Kennedy is the Chief Operating Officer for Hassman Research Institute (HRI). Steve is responsible for HRI’s strategic business outlook and the day to day business operations of the company. He has a strong track record in business operations. Prior to his role at HRI, Mr. Kennedy worked for large Information Technology (IT) companies, ATOS and CSC, where he was a Vice President and Managing Director, responsible for leading large IT outsourcing contracts.
Steve has a BA degree in Computer Science from LaSalle University and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Temple University’s Fox School of Business.
PHYSICIANS, RATERS, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS (PA)
Roberta Ball, DO, MA, FACA, FACN is the lead Chief Psychiatric Director for Hassman Research Institute. Doctor Ball is board certified in Psychology and Neurology with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry. She has extensive experience conducting structured clinical interviews and diagnostic evaluations on clinical trial subjects focusing on numerous mental health disorders. Dr. Ball has been conducting clinical research since 2003, during this time she has become of a member of over ten associations. She is a diplomate of numerous boards, including: American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology – certification in added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry, American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, The National Board of Examiners for Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. Additionally, over the past fifteen years, she has been part of over 45 medical publications and presentations.
Dr. Ball received her Master’s degree in Psychology from Temple University and earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Philadelphia, PA).

Elissa Hassman, DO is a board-certified Ophthalmologist and Sub-Investigator for Hassman Research Institute (HRI). Dr. Hassman has a degree in Ophthalmology with Cornea Fellowship Training. In addition to a Sub-Investigator at HRI, Dr. Hassman practices through Berlin Medical Associates (Berlin, NJ).
Dr. Hassman earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Philadelphia, PA). Her undergraduate degree is from University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA).

RATER & SUB-INVESTIGATOR, OPHTHALMOLOGIST
Ashok Joseph, MD is a Rater and Sub-Investigator for Hassman Research Institute (HRI). Prior to joining HRI in 2016, Dr. Joseph worked at Comprehensive Clinical Research in Berlin, NJ as a CDR Rater, MDD and Bipolar / Spirometry Rater, as well as a Clinical Research Coordinator for over 14 years. Dr. Joseph has been a part of the clinical research industry since 1976 and has extensive experience conducting clinical trials all over the world. Throughout his time in clinical research, he has conducted Phase I-IV CNS and medically-focused clinical trials. He is a certified dietary consultant and is trained in over 50 rater scales. In addition to his many certifications and medical presentations, Dr. Joseph has conducted over 150 trials during his time in clinical research.
Dr. Joseph earned his Medical degree (MD) from the University of Mysore, India. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kerala, India.

Stephanie Iglesias, Ph.D. is a Sub-Investigator and Psychometric Rater at Hassman Research Institute (HRI). Dr. Iglesias has over 15 years’ experience as a caseworker. During this time she worked closely with adolescents and families. Dr. Iglesias has extensive experience as a family team meeting coach, interactive coach, adolescent specialist, SPRU (special response unit) worker, crisis worker, and crisis supervisor.
Dr. Iglesias has a B.A. and M.S.W. in Social Work from Rutgers University and her Ph.D. is in Counseling from Capella University.
